Shakshuka is an easy, healthy breakfast (or any time of day) recipe in Israel and other parts of the Middle East and North Africa. It is a simple combination of tomatoes, onions, garlic, spices and lightly boiled eggs. This nutritious, filling and a recipe guarantee you'll make time and again.
I first traveled Shakshuka years ago with my mother to Egypt. I remember my food and the simple but bold flavors and spices that I immediately loved. When I recently visited Israel, where shakshuka is an almost national dish, it was once again the dish I was most keen to dive into.
I spent two weeks traveling in Israel (on the most glorious trip) and I was able to enjoy the shakshuka many times. To be honest, I thought of “researching, so that I could bring you a true Tel Aviv-inspired comment.
Is Tel Aviv the Capital of Shakshuka?
Tel Aviv is a vibrant, lively, cool, open-air café-vibe city. I didn't know what to expect in Tel Aviv, but I can tell you, it ruined me. There is a young energy in the city and I have met some of the most friendly, hospitable people.
Tel Aviv has a wonderful Mediterranean atmosphere all year round, but let me tell you, the dining atmosphere is definitely something to write home. I ate. And seven. And seven. Everything is fresh, the vegetables are heavy, loaded with herbs and layered with flavor. This is a dream city for vegetarians and lovers of exceptional food.
The photo below is a shakshuka I like in Tel Aviv. How cute is the single portion served in a mini saute pan? Shakshuka made with freshly squeezed juice and a side of the fruit, please please! But as this may be a new recipe for many of you, let's answer some basic questions about shakshuka.
What is Shakshuka?
Shakshuka is a classic North African and Middle Eastern dish and one that is eaten for breakfast or any meal of the day. Made from simple, healthy ingredients and vegetarian. Shakshuka literally means karışım a mixture ve and in the traditional version, tomatoes, onions and spices are used as boiled eggs.
Today you can find many shakshuka varieties, including Brussels Sprouts and Green Shakshuka with Spinach. You can also add feta or goat cheese and adapt it to your taste. The choices are endless - what makes this dish such a national favorite (of so many countries!).
Is Shakshuka spicy?
Shakshuka spices may vary, but you will often find red peppers, cumin and chili powder along with fresh garlic. Delicious spicy, not hot spicy. Still, if you want to heat, you can always add red pepper.
How do you do Shakshuka?
It's really easy to make shakshuka, especially if you use canned tomatoes (you can always use fresh tomatoes as well). Take an onion and red bell pepper and add to the saute pan with a little olive oil over medium heat. Stir the vegetables for about 5 minutes or until the onion is translucent.
Then add the garlic and spices and mix for another minute until it is pleasant and fragrant. Pour into a 28 ounce bowl of peeled tomatoes and use your spatula to cut the tomatoes into smaller pieces. When this mixture boils slightly, you can break your eggs.
Use a spatula to make small holes in the eggs, then break one egg into each hole. I used 6 eggs, could use more or less depending on the size of the pan. Lower the heat, cover the pan and cook for another 5-8 minutes, or cook until the eggs are made as desired.
Season the eggs with salt and plenty of freshly chopped parsley and coriander before serving. Enjoy!

Heat the olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add the chopped bell pepper and onion and cook for 5 minutes or until the onion is translucent.
Add the garlic and spices and cook for another minute.
Pour tomato juice and juice into the can and shred the tomatoes with a large spoon. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and let the sauce simmer.
Use a large spoon to make small wells in the sauce and break the eggs into each well. Cover the pan and cook for 5-8 minutes or the eggs are made as desired.
Garnish with chopped coriander and parsley.
If you do not contain milk, crumbled white cheese or goat cheese may be added. It is traditionally served with pita bread, but I love to serve it with avocado slices.
Many photos online show shakshuka cooked in cast iron skillet. Tomatoes are acidic and abrade the spices in a cast iron skillet. You can also get a slight metallic taste to the meal. So, like the beauty of All Clad, I advise you not to try your luck and cook in a stainless steel pot.

When I first came to Shakshuka, I was in Madeira on a trip with friends 6 years ago. We all loved it, but none of us had forgotten it soon because it was a meal we had never heard before.
They came to visit us today and they told us that they bought a lot of tomatoes from the market, so we should do something with tomatoes for lunch. I went to your YouTube Channel for inspiration and rediscovered the Shakshuka recipe. It was easy to do, I had all the materials in the house and it took almost no time and effort. Unfortunately, in Germany it is not easy to get fresh coriander (or ever) and we were only frozen in parsley but even with these changes it was very tasty !!!
Thank you for inspiring your followers to always try new things, eat healthy and explore different cultures with food. We had a wonderful lunch that reminded us of our time in Madeira and everyone was happy and filled the table.

I was in tears about trying shakshuka again, and this was my first attempt. I will write my shakshuka "experiments" on my own blog, but I wanted to say that it was delicious and I look forward to using it as a basic recipe for the purpose. I cooked it using the recipe card, which is a minor negligence: it lowers the eggs. When it came time to do it, I just followed it along the card and set a timer for five minutes. When I opened the lid, I saw that there was more to it than just fusing. I thought to myself, “Oh, yes, I should have been humiliated.” He did. Then I went back to the recipe card and saw that he didn't say anything about it, so I thought maybe I saw it on another video or something. Then today as I read the whole article, I saw the sos humiliation ”return to look at the photos of the texture of the sauce (mine was more arrogant than I did because I was too big and I assumed it would fall apart). Apparently it was prose (and I believe in the video) but not the recipe card. Getting over-cooked eggs didn't bother too much because it was only for myself. Thanks again for the recipe!
You can divide the recipe into 3 to get smaller portions. In addition, many people prepared their own dressing and personal portions. So, it's a matter of adding a portion of the sauce to a pot and adding your eggs. :)

Can't wait to try it! I love the flavor and warmth because I want to use berber spices! However, I don't want it to interfere with some of the other spices. Do you think I have to take the cumin out, or do you plan to add a barber with everything else?

Subway also offers salads that can be a low-calorie alternative to a sandwich. All salads include lettuce, tomatoes, spinach, onions, cucumbers, green peppers and olives.

2. Taco Bell
Taco Bell is another great fast-food chain with a variety of healthy options. The ability to personalize each order allows people to choose more vegetable-like nutrients.
According to Taco Bell's website, three-quarters of its menus are under 500 calories. Some of the lowest calorie options are the Fresco menu, which uses regular sauce and cheese instead of vegetable based salsa.
One of the healthiest options is Chicken Soft Taco. Each taco contains about 170 calories, 8 g fat, containing only 3 g of saturated fat.
Bean Burrito is a vegetarian option containing 11 g fat, 380 calories, including 4 g of saturated fat.
Vegetarian options are lower in fat than meat options.
Chipotle is a Mexican-style chain that specializes in tacos and burritos. Similar to Subway and Taco Bell, Chipotle allows people to customize their meals to include healthy choices.
Healthy options are burritos or white rice instead of white rice. In a chicken bowl bowl containing fresh tomato salsa and brown rice, there are 415 calories, 13 g fat and 4 g saturated fat.
For a lower calorie, vegetarian option, people can choose a plate of bean curd, brown rice and a sofritas patty with lettuce. It contains 365 calories, 10 g fat and 1.5 g saturated fat. Adding sauce will increase the number of calories.
McDonald's had the reputation of being unhealthy, but they recently reaffirmed themselves to offer a variety of fresh and nutritious ingredients. Some of these changes may be cosmetics, while McDonald's has better options.
Fillet-O-Fish contains 390 calories and 4 g of saturated fat from 19 g of total fat. Bacon Ranch Grilled Chicken Salad contains only 320 calories and 6 g of saturated fat from a total of 14 g.
5. Burger King
Burger King is one of the largest burger chains in the United States, but has a limited number of healthy options. But some choices are a little healthier than others.
It contains a normal, simple hamburger, 10 g total fat, 3.5 g saturated fat, and 240 calories. Grilled Chicken Sandwich contains 470 calories, 3.5 g saturated fat and 19 g fat.
BK Veggie Burger can be a healthier option among these examples. Contains 2,5 g of saturated fat, 390 calories and 17 g of fat.

Wendy is another common fast-food chain that allows people to personalize their orders to make their choices healthier.
The menu of the chain is not abundant in healthy options, but some meals are able to customize to lower the calorie content.
